If you prefer the control a shorter blade provides, Blue Spruce Toolworks Optima™ Butt Chisels are for you. Whether you're working in confined areas, carefully mortising for hinges or working on small dovetails, these butt chisels give you the stability and access you need. The connection between the chisel and the handle combines a strong socket with a deeply fitted tang. They're available in nine blade widths from 1/8” to 1-1/2”. The overall length of the chisels is about 6-1/2" with the standard style handle. You also have your choice of a shorter handle to match your hand size and type of work. The two handle styles are available in two wood choices, Resin-Infused Figured Maple and Cocobolo.

All Optima Chisels feature a lapped and polished back with flatness measured in light bands (the same system used to measure silicon wafers). This incredible surface results in edge sharpness unlike any other chisel in the world. You will never have to flatten the backs of your Optima chisels…ever. And, when you unbox your new Optima Chisels, they’re razor sharp and 100% ready to go to work. No sharpening, no honing, no nothing.

Perfectly sharpened is a great first step, but how does it hold an edge? Each Optima Chisel is machined from A2 tool steel, heat treated, double-tempered, cryogenically treated, ground, lapped and polished to perfection. The tempering and cryo treatments result in an incredibly fine grain structure and a hardness of Rockwell C-60 to C-62. Blue Spruce Optima chisels take and hold an edge like no other.

4-PIECE SET
This set includes the four most commonly used chisel sizes: 1", 3/4", 1/2", and 1/4".

6-PIECE SET
This set adds two larger chisels to the 4-piece set: 1-1/2", 1", 3/4", 1/2", 1/4", and 3/8".

9-PIECE SET
Our most complete set includes every size you’re likely to need to create precision joinery. 1-1/2", 1-1/4", 1", 3/4", 5/8", 1/2", 3/8", 1/4", and 1/8".
