PLEASE NOTE: Blue Spruce Toolworks Paring Chisels are made to order and currently have a LEAD TIME of about 3-4 WEEKS.
Blue Spruce Toolworks paring chisels are the finest quality paring chisels available today. They are specifically designed for fine paring and fitting of joinery such as dovetails, mortise and tenons, instrument making, etc. Made in the tradition of tang-style pattern maker’s chisels from long ago, they are lighter in weight than most traditional bench chisels, especially socket-style bench chisels, and are superbly balanced. The extra long blade length gives a slightly springy feel or flexibility to the blade which some craftsmen prefer. (The 1/8” size is quite flexible) The blades are 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) thick and have parallel, concave machined sides leading to a side land that is only a few thousandths of an inch (3.2 mm) thick which gives excellent visibility and the ability to pare right into the sharpest dovetail corners. The blades are made from A2 tool steel which is some of the finest steel available for edge tools today. It is hardened and tempered in a computer controlled vacuum furnace to a hardness of Rc60. The cutting edge is ground and honed at a 30 degree angle. They are sharp and ready to use, however, you may want to perform additional, final honing for the ultimate edge. The handles are available in two sizes and are both designed to nestle in the palm of your hand and provide a comfortable, secure grip for precision, fatigue-free work. See the 1/2 inch chisel product description for a picture of both handles. Blue Spruce Toolworks paring chisels should be reserved for your finest paring and joinery work.
