Blue Spruce Toolworks dovetail chisels are some of the finest quality dovetail chisels available today. They are specifically designed for the fine paring and fitting of joinery such as dovetails, mortise and tenons, instrument making, etc. Made in the style of classic, tang-style chisels, they are lighter in weight than most traditional bench chisels, especially socket-style bench chisels, and are superbly balanced. The handles are designed to nestle in the palm of your hand and provide a comfortable, secure grip for precision, fatigue-free work. The relatively short blades are 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) thick and have parallel, concave machined sides leading to a side land that is only a few thousandths of an inch (0.15 mm) thick which gives excellent visibility and the ability to pare right into the sharpest dovetail corners. The blades are made from A2 tool steel which is some of the finest steel available for edge tools today. It is hardened and tempered in a computer controlled vacuum furnace to a hardness of Rc60. The cutting edge is ground and honed at a 30 degree angle. They are sharp and ready to use, however, you may want to perform additional, final honing for the ultimate edge. Blue Spruce Toolworks dovetail chisels should not be considered a replacement for a good set of everyday bench chisels which can be pounded upon with heavy blows from a mallet but should be reserved for your finest paring and joinery work. They are well suited to light taps from an appropriately sized mallet when necessary but are primarily designed for paring only. Blue Spruce Toolworks dovetail chisels are also available in a longer, pattern makers length and with skew grinding. PLEASE NOTE: Blue Spruce Toolworks chisels are made to order and may have a current lead time of 3 to 4 weeks.
